I have upgraded a sql server from 2008R2 to 2012. Since then I have seen a periodic increase in the total number of sql processes and the number of blocked processes. The total number of sql processes has increased to as high as 221,000 with blocked processes as high as 212,000.
Here is some backgroud and environment information.
Physical server: 24 cores (dual 12 core xeon 2.6 ghz processors) ; 48 gb ram; Win server 2008R2 ent 64bit/sp1(6.1.7601); 4 mirrored pairs of disks
SQL Server: Enterprise Edition 64 bit; Data, Logs and tempdb are each on their own drives; transactional replication publisher; replication distributor; service broker application in one database; monitored with Quest software Spotlight on Sql Server Enterprise(8.5.0.5451).
Since upgrading to sql 2012, the total number of processes reported by Spotlight on Sql Server Enterprise (SoSSE) increase from the typical 60-80 to over 100,000. The blocked processes reported by SoSSE have also increased during the same period. After a few minutes, these numbers drop back down to normal and 0, respectively.
When this happens, some of my service broker procedures become blocked.
Were there changes in the DMV's that report this type of information?
